To quote Pete Meaden, “Mod living, is an aphorism for clean living under difficult circumstances."
This was an ear worm that worked its way into my brain while trying to come up with a name befitting of a new label which encapsulates the essence of the 1960’s, but is very much for the now.
Drawing inspiration from classic garments and stand out pieces that have crossed our path in the ten years we’ve had the Camden Store, not to mention the many years before that in which music, football, vintage clothing, classic cars and Italian scooters have been a staple in our lives.
It seemed logical to pay homage to a classic British film, released in 1969 which features all the aforementioned touchstones, with the added bonus of Benny Hill…and so our new label would come to be named ‘Mr Bridger’.
The name made us smile and I think that’s really important.
Serving time in style, dressed in a silk dressing gown and most probably monogrammed velvet slippers, dishing out orders and holding secret meetings in his private lavatory.‘ (‘There are some places, you outta know, which are sacred to an Englishman’).
So we’ve been working on a job, we’ve kept it under wraps, it’s been of the utmost importance that women are represented in equal measure and so there’s an even number of new pieces for him and for her.
We’ve started as we mean to go on and we hope you like the first drop, future collections are already in the works and we’re very excited to see your response.
As part of an early recognisance mission, we snuck a few pieces out for the mod weekender in Brighton (and they flew off the shelves). There’s a good chance Great Aunt Nellie won’t be disappointed after all.
Many of the garments we’ve produced are based on archive pieces and vintage finds, original trasures from the 1960’s, but also the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Clothing that has stopped us in our tracks, that has the look just right, from boutiques and brands no longer with us, in colour options not previously available.
Each piece is part of a very small production, the knits are limited to 100 pieces of each design, the shirting even less so.
So will we achieve our objective & deliver something Big!
It’s a bit of a cliffhanger…
Mr Bridger’s official launch is 1/10/2022.
